Henderson happy to play anywhere but prefers the centre

LIVERPOOL midfielder Jordan Henderson is away on international duty with the England Under 21s but he took a bit of time out to answer some questions on Twitter on behalf of The FA.

Signed from Sunderland in the summer, Henderson said he prefers playing in the middle, rather than the wing, because that’s what he feels he’s best at – but he made it clear that he’s just happy to be picked and will player wherever he’s put.

“Hendo” explained during the filming of his Twitter Q&A why he won’t be getting his own account any time soon. It’s important to note that he doesn’t have his own Twitter account and any accounts you might see on Twitter claiming to be his are fake and shouldn’t be followed. Also victims of fake accounts on Twitter are the two Reds stars Henderson said he gets on best with – Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll, neither of whom currently use the social networking site.

Stuart Pearce’s youngsters play a Euro 2013 qualifier against Iceland in Rekjavik tonight and then face Norway in Drammen on Monday. Joining Henderson in the squad are his Liverpool team mates Jonjo Shelvey (currently on loan to Blackpool) and right-backs Martin Kelly and Jon Flanagan.

Amongst the other questions Jordan was asked were favourite cheese, PES or FIFA and Maradona or Messi.

Jordan: Why I stay late

http://assets3.lfcimages.com/uploads/henderson263_4ea04b12670e6202681021.jpg

Jordan Henderson has revealed how he stays late after training because he wants to start climbing the scoring charts.

The 21-year-old has fired one goal from his eight Liverpool appearances so far having found the net at the Anfield Road End against Bolton.

He has also scored twice for England U21s this term, but is far from content with these stats.

"I like to stay after training and do some finishing and other things that I think I need to work on," he told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"Finishing and goalscoring is a big part of football so I've been trying to work on that for quite a lot of months now. Even when I was at Sunderland I was doing that.

"I've scored a couple this season and I would like a lot more.

"I can't get too focused on that, I need to concentrate on other parts of my game that I need to improve on, but goalscoring and getting in certain positions is definitely one thing I need to get better at."

Henderson has largely featured on the right of midfield since his summer transfer from the Stadium of Light, though his cameo in the middle against Manchester United caught the eye.

He also plays in the centre when captaining England U21s under the stewardship of Stuart Pearce.

But while central midfield is his natural position, our new No.14 isn't the type to go knocking on the manager's door.

He said: "I am not really fussed about where I play, I just want to play football and wherever I'm put I'll play. But obviously I like to play in the middle."

As well as being impressed with his talents on the pitch, Liverpool scouts also admired Henderson's application and attitude off the pitch prior to his move west.

Despite an unforgettable year which has seen him captain his country and move to one of football's most famous clubs, the midfielder knows he is not the finished article.

"I want to become a much better player, improve every day, keep working hard and learn from the players around me, and hopefully become a very successful player for Liverpool and also my country," he said.

"I'm very appreciative of where I am today, but I still want more, I still want to go forward. There are a lot more things I want to achieve. I don't get carried away with it but also I want to strive for more and keep that hunger going."

While Henderson often stays late at Melwood to improve his game, away from the pitch his lifestyle is a lot more relaxed.

"I haven't really been out (in Liverpool) yet, the nightlife, so I haven't seen that side of it," he said.

"There is a right place and time to go out with your friends of a night. It's important to do that as a team to bond, but I just tend to relax and watch telly most of the time.

"I've been for food and maybe the cinema now and again. It's a great city and I look forward to living here for a while."

Meanwhile, following Pearce's appointment as manager of Great Britain's 2012 Olympic football team, Henderson has revealed his ambition to participate in the London games.

The squad has to be made up of largely U23 players from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

"You never know, and if I'm picked I'd love to go, but I can't be looking that far ahead at the moment," he said. "I need to concentrate on my football, keep improving and whatever happens happens.

"It would be huge to do it in your own country and it'd be a big honour for anyone who goes to that tournament. I'm sure a lot of people will want to go."

Why do so many people seem to hate Jordan Henderson? If you listen to the phone-ins or spend more time than is healthy on Twitter, you’ll have noticed a growing number of Liverpool fans queuing up to put the boot in on their own £16million summer signing.
There’s even a Facebook group, inventively titled, “Jordan Henderson is S**T.”
(
seriously? what is wrong with some people
?)
It’s not all Liverpool fans, but it is a significant portion of them and they’re not being very fair. Henderson is a more than useful footballer.

In his brief cameo at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, he completed seven out of 10 passes. Seven out of 10. It’s actually rather tempting to use that statistic as a means of quickly describing Henderson to the uninitiated. The 21-year-old really is a 7/10 kind of guy. He’s a cheese and pickle sandwich. He’s a Tom Clancy novel. He’s the second Stone Roses album. He’s good. Not great, but good. If we were to apply the Gary Neville ‘PlayStation Controller’ test, Henderson would be operated by a mature gamer uncomfortable with all those fancy ‘special move’ buttons. And that’s no bad thing.

In all but one of his 12 Premier League appearances this season, Henderson’s pass completion rate has been above 70%. In three games, it has been above 90%. The only aberration was the White Hart Lane massacre (69%) and in that, he was hardly the worst offender. Generally, he gets the ball, he gives the ball and he moves up the field. Get, give, go. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Like another understated Liverpool midfielder, Ray Houghton, Henderson tends to play on the right wing only when his colleagues have the ball. When they are on the back foot, he trots in to form a midfield three. He does his job well and he never complains. But even if Henderson wasn’t giving entirely competent performances, the criticism would be over the top. This is, after all, a young man living in a new city in his first season with one of the most popular clubs on the planet. A little patience might be nice.

The problem, you suspect, is that many of his critics are unaware of the concept of patience, or of Houghton, or of the fact that Liverpool’s success in the 1970s and 80s was built on getting the ball, giving the ball and moving up the field. Today’s game is far more hysterical. In today’s game, if you don’t grab the bull by the horns and flush its head down the toilet like, say, Sergio Aguero at Manchester City, you’re in trouble. Henderson doesn’t grab bulls. He smiles politely and passes the ball around them.

Like his club, he’s in the early stages of what Reds fans will hope is a glorious metamorphosis. In the same way that Kenny Dalglish should never have been expected to convert Roy Hodgson’s misbegotten hoofballers into tiki-taka title contenders inside a year, Henderson should not be expected to wrestle the Ballon D’or from Lionel Messi’s tiny mitts in his debut season. Or indeed, ever. Yes, £16million was probably more than he is worth, but it’s not like he negotiated the fee himself. He shouldn’t be punished for the premium incurred by increasingly stringent ‘homegrown’ player restrictions.

In true Henderson style, let’s make this simple. He is already good. At some point in the future he will be very good and then, as they did with the much-maligned, now much-adored Lucas, those hard-to-please Liverpool fans are going to yank the handbrake and perform a screeching mental U-turn. Perhaps if they got behind their man now, instead of attempting to destroy him, he might get there sooner.

After he had checked that his ankle was still affixed to his leg and the lengthy treatment had finished, Jordan Henderson had one question for the assorted black puffa jackets on the Liverpoon bench. "Who did it?"

Hendo our best passer

Jordan Henderson was the most accurate passer on the pitch during Liverpool's 1-0 defeat to Fulham on Monday night.

Here are some more enlightening stats courtesy of Opta:

Fulham had 19 shots, Liverpool had 20.

Fulham's accuracy in front of goal was better, though - 57.1 per cent on target compared with Liverpool's 40 per cent.

The away side had 54.5 per cent of possession.

They also had 10 corners - Fulham won just two.

Liverpool played 519 passes, 83.4 per cent of which were completed.

Fulham completed 80.2 per cent of their 444 passes.

Among the defenders, Brede Hangeland made most clearances - 12 in total. Martin Skrtel made eight for Liverpool.

The statistics show that Jay Spearing won three of his three tackles - making him Liverpool's top boy in the challenge. Philippe Senderos had the same figures for Fulham.

Skrtel had the most impressive 'duel' stats on the pitch - winning 75 per cent of all his personal battles.

Danny Murphy enjoyed more touches than anyone else with 93. Charlie Adam once again topped this table for the Reds with 86.

Jordan Henderson was the best passer during the game with a very impressive 94.6 per cent completion rate among his 56 passes.

Charlie Adam was more ambitious in the pass, though, playing it long 13 times from 62 passes.

The video you selected is only available to LFCTV Online members. You are now watching our Preview video, login or click here to sign up.

Daniel Agger just pipped Skrtel to the honours among Liverpool's defenders, finding a teammate with 89.1 per cent of his passes.

Bobby Zamora was the best passer among the strikers who started with 89.3 per cent of his kicks finding their target. Craig Bellamy was next with 86.2 per cent.

Clint Dempsey had more shots than anyone else at Craven Cottage with nine, three of which were between the sticks.

Погледнете статистика на Хендърсън след контузията на Лукас ... Най - добрият ни халф, определено показва вече на какво е способен, като още малко работа във фитнес ще е по - уверен при високите топки ... Сега остава да се молим да не се контузва и той !
